IE 7 Tweaks?

Ever since I did a re format--IE 7 is running just a touch slower then usual. Not a huge inconvienience, but can anyone walk me through the settings or suggest a few tweaks that might make it a bit more snappy? I have high-speed cable internet.

IE7 is one of those Microsoft products that really can't be speeded up. It is what it is. You can turn off the anti-phishing. And you can do the usual cleaning of the system cache. Click tools %26gt; Delete Browsing History %26gt; click on whatever you'd like to delete. At a minimum temp files, cookies and history are always good to delete every so often. Old cookies or temp files can slow things down quite a bit.

Then there are some of the time saving things you can have IE7 do. Like automatically switching to new tabs. Click tools %26gt; internet options %26gt; general tab. In the tabs group (above appearance) click settings and in the new dialog box check the box next to "Always switch to new tabs when they are created". Keep clicking OK to back out.

A quicker way to open a link in a new tab is to hold down Ctrl when you click the link. You can also open sites from the address bar in a new tab. Type the address and then press Alt+Enter.

You can open multiple pages in a single IE7 screen and each page will have its own tab. But screen resolution might limit the total number of tabs you can see. So IE7 has a quick tabs feature which displays a thumbnail image of each open web page.

1. Open all the web pages you want in separate tabs.

2. Click the Quick Tabs button (just to the right of the star and + sign) or press Ctrl+Q. A thumbnail of each web page is shown.

3. Click on the web page you want to view

Opening IE- cannot access any other page?

When I open IE, there are 2 screens that open (not at the same time), but when I try to access a page besides the home page, it will not open.

Your copy of Internet Explorer works better than any other I've seen. I envy you!

Is there a question involved?

ADD: Okay, okay, I'll play nice. Your question is incredibly lacking in detail, but from what you have written, it looks like a virus. Or, if your 'home page' is set to a local page, it could be your Internet connection. It could also be IE is set to access the Internet through a proxy, and said proxy is blocking access. It might be your ISP has problems with their DHCP service, or your modem is having problems resolving an IP address for you, and it's preventing you from accessing the Internet. If you're on a LAN, your internal IP address could be missing from the DHCP service of your router.

My first answer was not a simple jab at your use of IE. It was an invitation to add more detail to your question.

Internet connection is troublesome already with wireless network, now with the active desktop I have had to reboot, or turn complete off serveral times. Only thing I can think of is this active desktop as the cause. Please help...

I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems.

Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

Yahoo IE 7 and Messenger 8 - loooking for speed problem fix?

After downloading Yahoo IE 7 and Yahoo Messenger 8, I got a notice automatically to download a fix for a speed problem. But now I can't find it again for a 2nd computer.

One of two things:

- The notice was a scam, and you have installed a trojan or spyware on your PC - in this case, download, install and run ADAWARE %26amp; SPYBOT to get rid of it

- The notice was a genuine Windows patch - in that case, presumably the second PC has a different version of Windows which doesn't have the problem, or it had already installed the patch - go to Windows Update to see what the PC needs.

No... you should mess with the registry of IE..

its not at all recommended and higlly risky and it may end up crashing your os..

just leave it as is

My IE is acting up...?

Since i re-register for norton is been acting up-i have IE 7 and when i put in a url and press search it doesnt do anything and then when i hit the x to close it , it gets stuck and sometimes freezes, i had firefox long time ago and the guy at the comp store said firefox causes alot of viruses, so i wont dl that again, but does anyone know whats up? help..

My IE is acting up...?uninstall internet explorer

If your going to get a virus from a site, its most likely going to be with Internet Explorer then Firefox.

My IE is acting up...?microsoft.com internet explorer

WOW THE GUY AT THE COMPUTER STORE IS A LIAR.

Everybody knows firefox is far more secure the I.E.

It's a proven fact.
Ugh... you've been talking to idiots. FireFox does not cause any problems other than huge memory leaks and occasional security holes.

I would get rid of Norton and use Nod32 if you desire an antivirus. Then, reinstall IE, make sure that you configure the zones properly, and then remove execute permission from the local settings folder for your user account. Congrats, IE is secure.

I would also run housecall.trendmicro.com and system file checker.

To run system file checker, Start%26gt;%26gt;run, type in "sfc /scannow" and hit enter.
Norton Internet security is probably causing the issue. Norton does that! Try this:

On the IE toolbar go to Tools | Manage Add-ons | Enable and Disable Add-ons, find the reference to Norton Internet Security, or anything Norton. Click it on then go down and disable the feature(s). Then shut down IE and restart. See if that helps. Then call Norton and tell them that their software is broken! :-)
Go the microsoft website and re-download I%26gt;E 7 if it still doesn't work try these popular browsers

www.mozilla.com

www.opera.com
Agree that Firefox is more secure that IE. Norton is also known to slow your computer down. Three free solutions:

Firefox

Zone Alarm (firewall)

AVG (Antivirus)

I would remove (uninstall) Norton and replace it with the above.
your best bet is to get rid of norton and firefox doesn`t cause viruses. it blocks viruses. spysweeper is a good program to have on your computer and it works well with norton.

Ie not working?

I don't know why .. it just doesn't load pages.

Firefox doesn't eiehr, but tht's broken too -_-

But IE works on my brother's account, which is on the same computer, which is how I'm on yahoo.

I've just reset all of the things .. customized things .. yea, so it's like .. how it was before any the settings was changed. And it's still not working -_- and I'm quite annoyed now.

Ie not working?ie

Since both firefox and IE don't work it sounds as if the problem may not be your browsers. Check your network settings. Are you connected through ethernet, wireless, or modem? See if they are enabled and the right settings are set. It is possible that the network setting on your account are different from your brothers. Without more info its hard to know what's your solution.
